Event Details

Milton Man Gogh will be performing a selection of tunes from their locally and internationally acclaimed full length, Stress to Impress plus some handpicked covers and new tunes written since its release.

Milton Man Gogh (MMG) is an experimental trio, formed as an outlet for the members to play the original compositions that no-one else wanted to play. Having performed and recorded together in various freelance and original settings over the last few years, the boys felt that the combination of shit yarns, shit music, a tortured, self-mutilating artist and a certain domestic beer made perfect sense; they decided to go ahead and give it a Man Gogh.

The result is an amalgamation of the core influences from each of the members; jazz, prog, contemporary classical and metal. Equally comfortable plundering sounds from Meshuggah and Donny McCaslin to Aphex Twin and Bela Bartok, MMG seeks to explore personal inquiry through composition, ultimately being brought to life in the studio and live performance.

Milton Man Gogh’s debut album, Stress To Impress, was released October 10th, 2017 through iconic experimental Sydney label, Art As Catharsis to local and international acclaim.

‘Milton Man Gogh excel at creating a diverse palate of emotions through frequent but deliberate changes in phrasing and playing dynamics. The sludge-ridden double-bass lines and aggressive, percussive insanity juxtapose almost too-perfectly with the many genuinely beautiful moments which catch the listener entirely off-guard, simultaneously becoming aware of the goosebumps running down their arm and the single tear welling in their eye.’ – William France, Heavy Blog Is Heavy

‘Describing their sound in such a manner could lead you to expect yet another joke, or more of a disparate shambles – classical-tinged prog/jazz for metal fans. Yet it all when the opener ‘Quit While You’re Ahead’ starts and through all of the other seven tracks it all slowly starts to make sense. Milton Man Gogh manages to bring all these disparate musical elements into a musical whole that not only makes sense, but is primarily listenable and thoroughly enjoyable for all who are willing to listen without sticking prejudice plugs into their ears.’ - Ljubinko Zivkovic, Echoes And Dust
