The David Bentley Trio delivers a spicy bouillabaisse of jazz classics, original songs, cool blues and New Orleans grooves. David (piano and vocals), Andrew Shaw (acoustic bass) and Nathan Goldman (percussion) perform as one – evidencing the kind of musical intuition that only comes with years of working together. The attentive listener will hear resonances of jazz and blues down through the years. David’s piano style is unique and swinging. Andrew’s bass solos invariably bring the house down. Nathan’s drumming is both exciting and sensitive. The trio thrives on collective improvisation. Each instrument carries equal weight and each musician contributes equally. Within this framework, David creates space to pursue a long standing jazz tradition established by poet/musicians like Mose Allison, Bob Dorough and Billy Strayhorn (music writers have also compared David’s style to that of Georgie Fame and Van Morrison).
As an accompanist, David has performed with U.S. jazz masters like vibraphonist Milt Jackson, vocalist Mark Murphy and saxophonists Phil Woods and Johnny Griffin. Bassist Andrew Shaw also has performed with renowned artists including US jazz saxophonist Dave Liebman and guitarist John Scofield, earning accolades for his “delectable notes” and “sublime sound”.
