Tue17Oct7:30 pmTicketedJMI Presents Mandi and the Unofficials

Event Details

Mandi is a Brisbane-based contemporary soul and Jazz singer who works with a number of talented Jazz musicians to provide duo, trio, quartet or larger big band size ensemble entertainment for restaurants, bars and events. Her experience includes regular gigging in London and Sydney pop culture scenes as a contemporary vocalist in various bands before going on to further study music at the Conservatorium, JMC Academy and more recently the renowned Jazz Music Institute. Mandi has worked towards making a solo EP with reknowned producer – Eric J (Art Vs Science, Chet Faker). She was a backing vocalist for established Brisbane band Ladi Abundance whom she toured with and regularly performed festivals and larger venues including the Hifi, Woodford Folk Festival, Earth Frequency Festival and Manifest. Emersion in this talented group of Jazz-musicians, Mandi’s passion for Jazz soon became the forefront of her music career pulling her towards furthering her Jazz education and making her mark in the Jazz scene. After immersing herself fully in Jazz for the past 2 years, Mandi says she finally feels like she’s “come home”.

The Unofficials started as a two piece in james browns garage in 2005, eventually they found Bass aficionado Oliver Gray. Playing many varying forms of music they eventually found themselves in JMI where they took to Jazz like butter to toast. Since then the Unofficials ensemble has mutated and grown from 3 up to as many as 9 members and have played with a range of well known Brisbane artists including, Erica Sunnex, Emily Mcormick, Paula Girvan, Dan Quigley and Frazer Goodman. They have enjoyed festival slots from Jungle Love and their own Psych Nights to Mackays Lanes festival and Tasmanias Festable. The Unofficials wear their influences on their sleeves and enjoy playing many genres of jazz from traditional and gypsy to hard bop and fusion
