Doo-Bop’s very first Melbourne Cup screening was most certainly an event to be celebrated on the Doo-Bop calendar. Almost 15 hours of live music was enjoyed by the Doo-Bop patrons over the course of the race day, both upstairs in the Doo-Bop Piano Bar and downstairs in the Jazz Bar. In addition, the event saw the much-anticipated release of our brand new flat-screen TVs on both levels. These impressively high-quality TVs allowed patrons to eagerly observe both the lead-up to the race and the race itself, whilst clutching on to their lucky (or not-so-lucky!) tickets.

Up in the Piano Bar, the ‘queen of soul’ Angela Fabian filled the space with her mesmerizing voice. As well as captivating the assembled patrons, Angela’s enthralling performance attracted an additional assortment of well-dressed folk into the venue, leading to a veritable flotilla of fascinators all around the room!

Meanwhile, down in the Jazz Bar, we saw an abundance of stylish and creative racewear, which contributed to a commendably  high level of competition for the event’s much-coveted best-dressed prize. Leading the Jazz Bar entertainment was the dynamic George Washingmachine, who took the audience for an energetic and effervescent musical spin! His stupendous stage presence and contagious enthusiasm ensured that the cocktail-sipping crowd were amply entertained all afternoon.

Back up in the Piano Bar, the festivities continued throughout the afternoon, as did the entertainment. Our regular act the John Delord Duo was a real crowd-pleaser, with his powerful vocals, engaging manner and rich musical repertoire.

Later that evening, the cocktails continued to flow in Doo-Bop, as again did the entertainment. The indefatigable George Washingmachine was back for another spirited set in the Jazz Bar, where he again put his performance spin setting on high for all those grateful jazz fans who’d been unable to escape from work earlier in the afternoon.

Overall, we’re very happy to say that the inaugural Doo-Bop Melbourne Cup event was a resounding success and a “terrific day”, as described by George himself. So, everyone here at Doo-Bop would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day so successful.

And cheers also for your endorsement, George! We had a terrific day too!
