Nikki Nouveau is coming back in November after not one but THREE sold out performances last month at Doo-Bop Jazz Bar.

Nikki Nouveau goes under the Doo-Bop spotlight.

How long have you been a musician and what was your first public performance?

I first trained as a classical singer in opera. My first public performance was singing ‘Vilia’ from the operetta ‘The Merry Widow’ in a small church at the age of 17

What is special about jazz for you?

Jazz breaks the rules. It offers a sexy, improvised style that is highly appealing and liberating

What most inspires you about Edith Piaf?

I have always been deeply inspired by Piaf’s unusual life journey of love and tragedy. She sings with so much heart and emotion. But what fascinates me most about this incredible artist is that from such a petite frame comes such an extraordinary strength

Describe your most memorable moment on stage

Receiving a standing ovation for “No Regrets: The Edith Piaf Story” at an intimate vaudeville theatre where the show was first performed

Who is the most influential person you have worked with and why?

I have been blessed to learn from two incredible women who have inspired my artistic path. Queenie van de Zandt for her insight, encouragement, intelligence and empowering nature;

&

Natalie Gamsu for her strength, bold ideas and ability to bring out the best writer in me

What is your favorite colour?

Red. For me it represents passion, love and sensuality.

What other special talents do you have that we don’t know about?

While writing my show ‘Kabaret Dietrich’ (a musical biography of Marlene Dietrich’s life) I was surprised to learn that Marlene played the musical saw and so I too learned to play the saw. I was lucky enough to be taught by world famous musical sawist Natalia Paruz in New York City!

Describe yourself in 10 words

Passionate, creative, expressive, spiritual, curious, sincere, intense, insightful, driven, imaginative

And finally, tell us a little bit about your upcoming performances that we don’t know yet…

I am currently writing a musical cabaret about the history of Australia’s famous Red Light Districts.
