Internationally regarded jazz vocalists, London based Anita Wardell, recipient of the BBC’s Best of Jazz Award, Anita Wardell (UK) and Michelle Nicolle (AUS) will lead a 2 day intensive workshop covering all aspects of vocal jazz performance which will conclude with an evening concert.

This is an invitation to intermediate to experienced singers who wish to advance their knowledge, skill base and confidence. As well as working closely with both Anita and Michelle, participants will rehearse with and perform with sought-after musicians…….
This is a unique opportunity to tap into the vast well of performance and education experience that both Anita and Michelle have accumulated over the last 30 years.

The intensive is capped at 14 participants.

10.00: Introductions, vocal warm-ups and map out vocal ranges
10.30: “Rhythmic Workout “on guide tones of a Be-Bop blues
11.15: “Instrumental Singing” – learning a Be-Bop head
11.45: Morning Tea
12.00: Improvisation on Be-Bop blues
1.00 Lunch

Afternoon:

2.00: “Repertoire Building and Independence”
2.30: “Thoroughly Knowing a Standard” – we will work together through a song and look at the story and chords for improvisation.
3.30: Afternoon Tea
3.45: Students prepare their own choice song for performance on Sunday night– we’ll confirm key, chart and arrangement.
5.00: finish

Sunday 10.00 – 5.00

Morning:

10.00: “Word Solos” –improvisation and trading improvisations
10.30: “Second Chorus Soloing on a Standard”
11.45: Morning Tea
12.00: “Building Vocabulary with Aural Transcription” – we will together aurally transcribe a horn solo
1.00 Lunch

Afternoon:

2.00: with a professional Rhythm Section: concert song’s arrangement ‘walk through’ with Anita and Michelle workshopping.
3.30: Afternoon Tea
3.45: Concert run though – full arrangements of 2 sets
