Multi-talented pianist and singer Cleon Barraclough is one of Brisbane’s most sought-after performers in many genres, including jazz, Latin-themed music and commercial pop/soul.  Having played shows at many of Australia’s leading jazz clubs over the past 15 years, Cleon brings his experience and friendly style to the Wednesday night jam session in the Doo-Bop Jazz Bar (the basement bar of Doo-Bop).

The host band at the jam session is made up of the members from ‘Jackal’, a contemporary jazz trio who are known for their innovative compositions. Consisting of Cleon on piano and vocals, Patrick Farrell on bass and Luke Pammenton on drums, Jackal have toured their original works nationally, including a featured performance at the 2016 Brisbane International Jazz Festival.  The trio are very warm and engaging, and invite musicians of all abilities to come along and perform onstage at the Wednesday night jam. At the same time, they respect the integrity of the music, and will ensure it to be of a consistently high standard throughout the session.

Music is a universal language. Whether you read music or not, whether you love to improvise or not, or whether you consider yourself to be more of a blues or soul musician than a jazz musician, music connects us all, no matter where we live or what language we speak. So, if you can play an instrument and you know a few songs, you’re very welcome to jam with the host band, and learn more about the language of jazz through melodic and rhythmical conversations.

It’s where many local and international guests love to visit and play.
