Event Details

Cigany Weaver will be presenting our unique catalogue of gypsy jazz repertoire that ventures to the summer streets of Paris and New Orleans showcasing songs from film, Jazz standards, Traditional Romani, and original compositions.

Formed out of a love for the legendary partnership of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grapelli in the French Hot Club Quintet, and with a nod and a wink to Sigourney Weaver and fine red wine, Cigány Weaver is one of Australia’s most exciting gypsy-jazz ensembles, with a dedicated and passionate following around Australia.
Their sound is reminiscent of jazz Manouche, traditional swing and Romani music, interwoven with contemporary material from artists like Bjork, and the band’s  reinterpretations of classics from popular culture.
Their virtuosic and energetic live performances, and the instinctive interplay between the musicians have invoked everything from subtle toe-tapping to spontaneous standing ovations and exuberant dance floor foot-stomping.
The band has performed at major festivals including The Woodford Folk Festival, MONA’s Dark Mofo, The Wallaby Creek Festival (FNQ), and closer to home, brought the audience to their feet at the OzManouche Festival (Brisbane Jazz Club), Ipswich Jazz and Blues Festival and Brisbane City Hall (Lord Mayor’s Concert Series).
With regular appearances in Brisbane’s most popular music venues, where audiences are often spilling out of the venue and dancing on the footpath, Cigány Weaver continue to make their stamp on the city’s vibrant live music scene, and cement their place as one of Australia’s must-see bands.
