Originally from Alberta, Canada, Mel is primarily a self-taught jazz piano player who possesses a creative flair in changing up the usual jazz standards into something different. She started playing jazz in her small-town high school big band and after graduating, was invited to play piano in two of Canada’s premiere big bands – The River City Big Band and Grant MacEwan Big Band. Since moving to Australia in 2014, Mel has quickly made a name for herself on the jazz and blues scene in Queensland, most recently being invited as a guest artist with the Brisbane Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. Mel is an actively gigging musician and currently plays piano with TONIC, Cloud 9, the Bec Whitehead band, and Peter McFarlane & The Sidewinders.
Doors open at 6.30pm. Show starts at 7.30pm.
