Thu19Mar7:30 pm- 10:30 pmFreeAnthony Carroll Quintet Presents: The Music of Thelonious Monk

Event Details

Anthony Carroll is a Brisbane based double bass player that is quickly making a name for himself on the Brisbane jazz scene. Since beginning his bachelor of music in jazz performance at the Jazz Music Institute, Anthony has been performing regularly around Brisbane as an in-demand sideman. Heavily inspired by the bebop sounds of the 1940’s, Anthony draws his inspiration from master bassists such as Oscar Pettiford, Paul Chambers, Sam Jones and Buster Williams.

The night will showcase the compositions of one of the most prolific figures in jazz, the great Thelonious Monk. Many of Monk’s compositions have become standard repertoire for modern jazz musicians. However, with a career that spanned over 3 decades and 70+ compositions there are a number of Monks tunes that are often overlooked. Anthony and his band will use this night to highlight some of Monk’s lesser known works

Doors open at 6.30pm. Show starts at 7.30pm.
