This is the era of the classic jazz standards and a time when the music transitioned from the swing sounds of Duke Ellington, Lester Young and Billie Holiday to the bop textures of 1940s and 1950s’ New York. Featured composers will be Bud Powell, Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins, and Cole Porter.

Graeme Norris has been living in New York City since 2012. In 2014 he graduated from the Masters in Jazz Performance program at Manhattan School of Music, where he now teaches. He was a featured soloist on the Grammy nominated CD, Que Viva Harlem with the Manhattan School of Music Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra.

Since moving to New York Graeme has played at Dizzy’s, Mezzrow, Smalls, Sounds of Brazil, the Antique Garage, Cleopatra’s Needle and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

Prior to moving to New York Graeme released two albums as leader and recorded with the Enthusiastic Musicians Orchestra, West End Composers Collective, and the Dan Quigley Quintet. He has taught jazz saxophone at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and the Jazz Music Institute.

Graeme has performed with Eartha Kitt, Jerry Lewis, Frankie Valli, Tom Burlinson, James Morrison, Monica Trapaga, Emma Pask, Don Rader, and Craig Scott. In 1994 the Graeme Norris Quartet featuring Jann Rutherford, Nicky Parrott and Alan Turnbull represented Australia at the Jakarta International Jazz Festival having previously been awarded an Australia Council Recording Grant.
