Event Details

Two artists who are rapidly becoming, among Australia’s most name checked emerging singer songwriters, JEN MIZE and LINC PHELPS, have put together a show that has them wearing one of their biggest influences on their sleeves.

April will see the launch of their RUNNING DOWN A DREAM tour, a celebratory tribute to the music, life and legend of the inimitable TOM PETTY.

Jen explains how the concept and collaboration came about, “Being a child of the 80’s, the songs of Tom Petty have been woven into the fabric of my life. The question has never been if I would do a Tom Petty themed show, but when and with whom so teaming up with Linc is an absolute no brainer!”.

Linc is equally enthusiastic, “Tom Petty’s music is timeless, and his rock n roll sensibility is magnetic. As a budding young guitarist, Free Fallin’ was the first song I learnt to play from start to finish.  Fourteen years later I jumped at the chance to play some shows with Jen. Her professionalism, passion and skill as an artist combined with our mutual love and respect for Tom Petty and his incredible catalogue of songs made it easy to turn the idea into reality.”

Jen Mize has built her reputation as a formidable songwriter and performer. Her debut album, ‘Fear, Pride & A Few Stubborn Angels’ charted on the ‘Americana Top 100’ in the USA, and she recorded her 2016 album, ‘Warnings and Wisdom’ with ARIA, APRA & Golden Guitar winning, producer & songwriter Shane Nicholson.

Media have long been singing Jen’s praises. John Walker, Executive Producer of the highly respected, and long running Nashville staple and syndicated live music show Music City Roots, didn’t hold back when he said, ‘Jen Mize is more than a great singer-songwriter. She’s a true artist. From the first time I heard her sing, she gripped my heart with raw honesty and deep soul.’

Since he first picked up a guitar at the age of 10, Linc Phelps knew that music would be his life.

With influences such as Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, John Prine and of course, Tom Petty, Linc was soon writing and performing his own brand of ‘alt country’. And with inspiration from blues, roots and soul pioneers such as Delbert McClinton and Bonnie Raitt, along with a nod to Americana artists such as Jason Isbell and Amos Lee, Linc developed what could best be described as a truly authentic sound and one that avoided the clichés that flavours some contemporary country music.

Linc has already amassed a legion of supporters, many of whom are his peers in the music industry including Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley who said of their friend “We’ve been fans of Linc since we met him about 5 years ago and enjoyed watching his growth in the industry. He always brings a rock star swagger to a live performance and blends musical styles effortlessly.”

The Running Down A Dream Tour featuring Jen Mize and Linc Phelps tour kicks off in April and is must for fans of the great Tom Petty.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Show starts at 8:15pm.
