Doo-Bop’s jazz vocal workshop with Nic Jeffries last Saturday was a collaborative and exciting opportunity for everyone involved. Participants utilised Doo-Bop’s basement Jazz Bar with its full backline for an authentic performance workshop experience. Nic covered a range of topics, including the Vocalist as a ‘Bandleader’, how to interact with instrumentalists effectively, and how arrangement and stylistic choice for a song is essential.

Vocalist and participant Naomi Doessel appreciated the opportunity for all participants to perform on stage with accomplished local jazz pianist Louise Denson. “You learn so much from watching others”, Naomi says, adding that the personalised feedback Nic gave to each participant meant “he catered perfectly to everyone, beginners through to professionals, which is quite a talent”.

Many thanks to Nic and Ingrid for bringing this workshop to fruition, and to Louise Denson for accompanying the vocalists on the day.

Doo-Bop will be facilitating many more workshops in the new year, hosted by some truly fantastic musicians. To be the first to hear about workshop opportunities, as well as ticket discounts, special events and more, please join our mailing list: https://www.doo-bop.com.au/add-mailing-list/
