John Smallcombe has been playing jazz for over 20 years. John is a saxophone player and has studied at JMI in its first year of inception learning from Vince Genova but finished his undergraduate studies at Qld Conservatorium of Music in 2002, being mentored by Tony Hobbs and John Hoffman. Whilst at the Qld Con he was a member of the Con Artists big band and the Con Jazz Sextet. After graduating John moved to Western Australia to get lessons from the legendary Graeme Lyall and join the Western Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra. Once returning back to Brisbane in 2005 John starting doing freelancing work and playing in the Rohan Somasekaran Quintet as well as leading his own bands. He is still honing his craft to give the best performance he can every time.
