“Charlotte Mclean is one of the best emerging vocal talents on the Australian jazz scene. A beautiful tone, expressive range and an adventurous improviser”. Toby Wren, QCGU.
Charlotte McLean is emerging as one of Australia’s most captivating and original young vocalists. Having completed her Bachelor of Jazz Music in Voice at the renowned Jazz Music Institute, (affiliated with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra), and her Masters in Vocal Pedagogy and Grad Cert in Jazz Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, her exemplary skills as an improviser allow her to put a fresh spin on classic jazz repertoire. Possessed of a velvety-smooth voice, she produces her own addictive style, and her original tunes have garnered critical and popular acclaim.
Performing jazz and originals regularly in Brisbane and Melbourne, Charlotte is also currently honing her skills as a voice technician for her students, of which she has a solid base. Charlotte has had a passion for writing music and performing from an early age, and released her debut album ‘Knocking Bird’ in July 2014 with Australian jazz guitarist Toby Wren. Charlotte also frequently collaborates in the recording studio and on originals projects with many renowned artists including guitarists James Sherlock and Bruce Woodward, saxophonist Andrew Garton and singer/songwriter Mark Sholtez.
Charlotte has been singing professionally for ten years, and was the winner of the June Bronhill scholarship for vocal excellence at the age of seventeen, whereby she toured to the USA. She now frequently performs with many of Australia’s elite jazz musicians at jazz venues and festivals.
